|
Japanese weddings Traditions
|
Originally the wedding in Japan was one of most
beautiful events you could see but nowadays
it has been transformed in a commercial show.
In the 10th century, the groom went to the
bride’s home and, the third night ate
some sweets which meant he was become
part of the family. Later on, in the warriors
society the bride wore a white dress and went
to the groom’s home where there was a big feast
and where the couple drank three sake glasses.
Starting from the 16th century wedding ceremonies
began to be held during the day in order to
show everybody the richness and beauty of the celebration.

Weddings were celebrated in Shinto style
which is the indigenous faith of the Japanese
people and as old as Japan herself.
Starting from the 20th century, the wedding
is becoming a very important event which involves
hotels, photographers, shops for flowers,
gown and so on. Many western elements have
been introduced, such as the cutting of the cake,
the exchange of rings, the bouquet.
Couples in Japan enjoy weaving both
the ritual of Japanese wedding tradition
with modern Western culture
Nowadays, this shrine may be located inside
the hotel where the festivities take place.
Only the close family is present during the ceremony,
that is conducted by a Shinto priest.
During the ceremony, the couple is purified,
drinks sake, and the groom reads the words of commitment.
At last, symbolic offerings are given to the kami.
The couple is dressed in traditional kimono.

After the ceremony, the couple welcomes all the guests,
and the reception party is held. Usually the party is
visited by about 20 to 200 guests among whom are relatives,
friends, co-workers and bosses of the bride and groom.
The party normally starts with the introductions
of the bride and groom. Afterwards,
a meal is held and several guests make
contributions such as speeches, songs and the like.
During the whole celebrations, the groom and especially
the bride may change their dresses several times.
At the very end of the party, the couple
will speech to all the guests and thank everybody
