Originally built in the 13th-c., the town used to be equipped with an impressive system of defence which no longer exists. The old town centre contains some worthwhile sights including Palazzo Pretorio, which houses the Town Hall. The palazzo’s style reveals the influence of Arnolfo di Cambio. Opposite, you can see the 15th-c. Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie with porticoes decorated by a magnificent Della Robbia terracotta. The interior is embellished by a very fine Annunciation by Beato Angelico. |
